How to clear the Safari cache on Mac
With WIWIClean
- Download and open WIWIClean. On first launch, allow Full Disk Access — without it the Safari cache is not visible.
On the Caches & logs card, click Show list.
In the Safari row, click Clean and confirm.
Only the Safari cache is removed. History, cookies and website logins stay.
Manually in Safari
Safari → Settings…
Advanced tab → turn on “Show features for web developers”. The Develop menu appears in the menu bar.
- Press ⌥⌘E or choose Develop → Empty Caches.
If only one page won't update, you don't need to clear everything: open it and press ⌥⌘R.
FAQ
Will clearing the Safari cache sign me out of websites?
No. The cache holds saved images and site files. Logins live in cookies, which clearing the cache doesn't touch.
Where is the Safari cache on a Mac?
In ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari. Finder can't open it without Full Disk Access, so it's easier to use the Develop menu or WIWIClean.
Why does a site still look old after clearing the cache?
Safari may still have the page open. Reload it without the cache: ⌥⌘R.
